Shire Oak Saints JFC do the Double!

Now in its second decade of providing football in the local community, Shire Oak Saints is celebrating a double having recently been recipients of two awards in the football honours.

South Staffordshire FA announced that Shire Oak Saints were winners of the FA Charter Standard Development County Award which is an honour received for being the top Charter Standard Development Club in the county of Staffordshire. Additionally, in December, the club has been bestowed FA Charter Community Award by the FA – this is the top award any club can achieve and is testament to the effort of the participants and volunteers efforts over many years. Shire Oak Saints Junior Football Club is a large part of the local community and as well as a Saturday morning academy for the under 7’s it also has 26 teams of boys and girls competing in the local Walsall and Lichfield leagues with each team having at least one FA qualified coach. Keith Davis, Chairman, commented - ‘ These are very pleasing awards for the club. A huge thank you to Stuart Clarke and Jane Turner for their work in achieving these awards and a special thank you to the coaches, youngsters and their parents who put in a huge effort week after week in making this club a huge success’. SPANISH TOUR FOR UNDER 9'S STROLLERS AND SPARTANS

Shire Oak Strollers & Spartans U'9s - Spanish Tour - May 2008

On Whitsun bank holiday Shire Oak Saints Strollers & Spartans Under 9's
took a 43 strong party on a football tour of Spain. Representing the club
was Joe Wells, Jack Sutton, Connor Greaves, Liam Kirton, Dominic Braisby,
James Walker, Jay Edmunds, Sam Richards, Saul Hudson, Lewis Fairclough and
Jack Picken along with managers Paul Greaves, Lee Edmunds and Kevin Hudson.
Staying in La Torre Del Sol we played two fixtures during their stay and
also visited the Barcelona's Nou Camp and the Port Aventura theme park.

The first fixture was against a very tough academy side CD Blanes. Saints
had the best of the opening exchanges but the talented hosts soon took
control cruising into a 5 goal half time lead. Determined to salvage some
pride Saints dug deep in the second half keeping a clean sheet with Jack
Picken setting up a superb consolation goal for hard working Joe Wells. Man
of the match was defender James Walker.

The second fixture was at FC Canet. Saints controlled the game throughout
and were unlucky not to be ahead at half time with our lads going close to
opening the scoring on several occassions. The game came alive in the
second half as Saints pushed for the winner. A disallowed goal (offside)
and missed penalty didn't dampen their spirits and Saints took a deserved
lead through the superb Liam Kirton. Canet then got back into the game with
an equaliser and then went on to win a penalty in the dying seconds. Saints
keeper and man of the match Jay Edmunds made a superb double save from the
spot kick to earn the lads a deserved 1-1 draw.

A fantastic time was had by all and the lads were a credit to both club and
country with good behaviour and sportsmanship both on and off the pitch.
The trip was a result of two years hard work raising funds through various
activities. Special thanks must go to parents Debbie Wells,Kerry Walker and
Zoe Hudson who were organised the trip and all of the fund raising events
and also Feltforce Roofing Specialists who sponsored the tour kit.
