"Saints" play on the hallowed turf at Wembley
 |
Shire Oak Saints in cup final at Bescot Stadium, home
of local Nationwide Division 1 Club Walsall F.C. |
And
then mini – soccer… Shire Oak Saints
were one of the founders of mini soccer and this leadership was rewarded with
the team playing at Wembley during the interval at an England European qualifying
match versus Luxemburg
Quality standards The club has always prided itself on providing a
safe environment for boys and girls to enjoy and learn football. As part of
the commitment to the children The Club applied for and was awarded FA Charter
Standard successfully attaining the Regional Charter Club of the Year Award
for 2002.
And today……. From its humble beginnings at car
boot sales and one team, the club now boasts 25 teams of boys and girls from
aged under 8 to under 18 and is represented at all age groups in either the
local Walsall or Lichfield leagues
The
beginning…..Back in 1996, Keith Davis, Carole Davis and Paul
Wilde started out with a team of 11 nine year olds. The kit and equipment was
purchased from the proceeds of a number of attendances at local car boot sales
and soon their hard work had brought enough funds for the team to be entered
in the local league. In the next season, another team was started and the following
year saw the addition of two further teams.
The
Future…The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary together with
the appointed committee, team managers, parents and most importantly players
are committed to developing the club, playing football and having fun.
