The
Swifts have all been together as a team since joining the Saturday morning academy
back in 2004/05.
Phil Lloyd and Mark Boden manage and coach the team on Wednesday evenings at
Shire Oak School and they play in the Walsall Junior Youth League on Sunday
mornings.
We really enjoyed our first season in the league putting in some excellent performances
along the way, however inconsistency meant we finished the season in mid table.
End of season training continued in preparation for the Clubs Tournament. Again
the Swifts started off poorly, losing their first two games against Lane Head
2-0 and our fellow Shire Oak team The Gunners 1-0. The defeats appeared to give
the lads the kick start they really needed as they picked up the pace against
a very good Pelsall Villa Colts team, winning 1-0. This was followed by a goal
rout, thrashing Burntwood B 5-0. In the deciding match the Swifts upped their
game and beat Bloxwich Sharks 1-0.
The draw for the quarter final pitted swifts against Burntwood A. The match
went in to extra time, with Swifts coming out on top 4-2. In the semi final
the Swifts played against The Gunners. An outstanding team performance resulted
in a 2-0 victory. The final put the Swifts against Pelsall Villa Colts again.
The game was probably one of the best under 7's footballing performances witnessed
at a Shire Oak Saints Tournament. The result ended with Pelsall winning 1-0.
The performances at our tournament showed us all exactly what The Swifts are
capable of producing. A great end to our 2006/7 season.
The 2007 summer may well be a wash out, with regard to other planned tournaments,
but we are all looking forward to the 2007/08 season with our aim of improving
on last seasons performance.
